14th Annual Conference of the European BioSafety Association

 EBSA Workshop 13 April 2011

EBSA Conference 14 - 15 April 2011

Estoril, Portugal

Dear Colleagues

We are immensely proud to announce the confirmed programme for EBSA's 14th Annual Conference to be held in Estoril, Portugal on the 14th - 15th April 2011. The conference itself will as usual be preceded on 13th April with a full day of workshops covering a wide range of essential biosafety topics. These have been designed so as to be able to provide the time and resource in order that attendees can achieve a detailed understanding of the subject in hand.

Upon completion of the workshops, the main conference itself will be opened with a drinks reception during the early evening of the 13th April. Delegates are then invited to enjoy an evening exploring the resort town and beaches of Estoril before removing the sand from their shoes and appearing suitably bright-eyed for the start of the conference on the 14th April. Following the EBSA Presidential introduction and an insight into the practice of biosafety in Portugal, the programme will offer sessions ranging from Biosecurity to Applied Biosafety delivered by speakers that include both policy-makers as well as biosafety practitioners. The first day will end with the Annual General Meeting followed by dinner in a wine cellar where the atmosphere will no doubt be convivial and the opportunities for constructive networking plentiful.

The conference will unusually end this year with the Chris Collins Lecture. But as the honour this year goes to Allan Bennett, then, as those of you that have attended previous conferences will no doubt attest, there are very good reasons for putting Allan on last.

Without the substantial efforts of the members of the Conference Programme Working Group and the excellent support of the administration and conference office of DECHEMA, the conference could not reach the quality we have now. We thank all involved parties for their hard work.

We look forward to seeing not only those of you that have been to previous conferences there again, but also to welcoming many new faces for what we are sure will be an interesting and professionally rewarding few days.

With best regards
