Dear speakers, workshop and poster presenters,

Thank you again for contributing to the EBSA conference in Bruges in June 2026. We hope you found the conference as valuable and enjoyable as we did, and that the discussions have continued beyond the meeting.

We are getting in touch with two related requests.

First, may we share your presentation with the EBSA conference attendees?
If you are happy for us to do so, we can share your presentation as a PDF or you can send us a new adapted PDF version, or results from your break-out discussions that can be shared. We will make it available to registered conference attendees as part of the conference materials.

Second, we would very much like to encourage you to turn your talk or poster into an article for Applied Biosafety.

EBSA is guest-editing a special issue of Applied Biosafety entitled “Biorisk Management: Global Approaches and Practices.” Marcel van Bergen and Pat Casey are guest-editing the issue on behalf of EBSA, and they would love to see it filled with EBSA voices and the practical experience, ideas and perspectives represented at our conference.

The submission window is open now, with a deadline of 1 March 2027.

Importantly, it does not have to be a full research article. The special issue welcomes:

  • Original Articles
  • Reviews
  • Editorials and Commentaries
  • Letters to the Editor

A sharp, honest piece of a few pages about something you know well is genuinely welcome. Your conference presentation or poster may already contain the makings of a contribution. There is no charge to publish, unless you choose immediate open access.

A couple of practical points are also worth knowing:

  • You do not have to wait for the printed issue for your article to be published. Accepted articles are published online ahead of the print issue, so your work can be available and citable as soon as it clears review.
  • When submitting, please select “Special Issue with the European Biosafety Association” as the manuscript type.

And you do not need to have a finished manuscript before getting in touch. If you have a rough idea — even just a paragraph — and are not sure whether it is worth pursuing, Marcel van Bergen or I would be very happy to talk it through informally. That offer is genuine; I would far rather have ten of you take us up on it than none.

For formal pre-submission questions, or anything relating to the journal's submission process, the Applied Biosafety Associate Editors are your points of contact:

Sumit Ghoshsumit.ghosh@nationwidechildrens.org
Scott Patlovichscott.j.patlovich@uth.tmc.edu

The deadline is 1 March 2027. That may sound a long way off, but it really isn't once you allow time for drafting and review. Please don't leave it until the winter.

Full details about the special issue and submission instructions are available here:

We hope many of you will consider contributing. The conference brought together a great range of experience and perspectives, and it would be fantastic to see those voices carried forward into the special issue.

Kind regards,
