BBP is looking for new candidates who would like to join the BBP steering team ‘23-’24!

BBP aims at bringing together biosafety professionals to share experience, to be informed on developments and to anticipate upcoming issues, as well as providing a focused and structured dialogue on biosafety and biorisk management.

In order to ensure the operations of BBP, we have an enthusiastic Steering Team that guides BBP in its tasks. For 2023 - 2024 we are looking for two new Steering Team members that wish to contribute more actively to the activities of BBP. Interested? Then don’t hesitate to submit your candidature! The BBP Steering Team meets around 10 times per year (mostly online) to discuss relevant developments, and make preparations for its activities. If you are interested and have questions, please do not hesitate to contact bbp.steeringteam@ebsaweb.be. Deadline for submitting a candidature is November 14th 2022.

Biocides Info Session DETIC

DETIC is the Belgian and Luxembourg association for producers and distributors of cosmetics, cleaning and maintenance products, adhesives, sealants, biocides and aerosols. On Wednesday October 12th DETIC organizes in Brussels an info session on Biocides with speakers from relevant Belgian authorities.

Obligation to indicate a trained Safety Advisor for shipment of dangerous goods

The obligation to indicate a trained safety advisor has been extended to all companies/institutions shipping dangerous goods. Deadline for implementation is December 31th 2022.

DGT (Dangerous Goods Training & Consultancy)/VVV (Vereniging Voor Verkeersveiligheid) organizes an info session on this topic on October 13th (Antwerp). More details here.

ISO standard Genome editing Vocabulary

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published a “Genome Editing Vocabulary” standard. The ISO document provides an internationally agreed-upon list of terms that will “improve confidence in and clarity of scientific communication, data reporting and data interpretation in the genome editing field”.

Public Consultation of the European Commission on fertilisers & end points

EU rules cover all types of fertilisers (mineral, organic, etc.). They ensure that only those that meet high quality and safety standards can be sold freely across the EU. A new initiative supplements existing rules on fertilisers with conditions to enable certain fertilisers containing animal by-products to be placed on the market without the need for further controls. Deadline for submission of comments is October 24th 2022.

Meeting on the future of new genomic techniques in Europe (Utrecht, the Netherlands)

The European Commission expects to come forward next year with a proposal for new regulations for plants obtained with certain new genomic techniques. Therefore, the Dutch authorities organize a meeting on the future of new genomic techniques in Europe. Irene Sacristán Sánchez, Head of Unit Biotechnology of the European Commission, will inform you about the status of the ongoing legislative process. The meeting (in Dutch) will be held on Friday October 14th 2022 (13h30-17h) at ‘Spoorwegmuseum’ Utrecht.
