Dear EBSA Members,
As we look ahead to our Annual Conference in Bruges, 2–5 June, I'm delighted to share an exciting opportunity for EBSA members to contribute to the global biosafety literature.
Applied Biosafety, the peer-reviewed journal of ABSA International, has partnered with EBSA to produce a Special Issue on Biorisk Management: Global Approaches and Practices, guest-edited by EBSA President Pat Casey (UCC) and EBSA Conference Programming Working Group Chair Marcel van Bergen, alongside colleagues from the United States. The submission deadline is 1 March 2027.
The scope is broad — from genetic technologies and laboratory design to fieldwork biorisk and occupational health — and contributions from across the European biosafety community are warmly encouraged. If you are presenting a talk or poster in Bruges, please consider developing your work into a full manuscript for the special issue. It is an ideal way to extend the reach and impact of your conference contribution.
While the print issue will not appear until 2027, accepted articles will be published online shortly after acceptance — meaning your work can reach a global audience well in advance of the print release.
"The Bruges conference is a highlight of the EBSA calendar, and this special issue is a natural extension of the conversations we will have there. Whether you are presenting a talk, a poster, or simply have research or experience worth sharing, I warmly encourage you to submit. This is an opportunity to put European biosafety expertise on the global map."
Pat Casey, President European Biosafety Association
