President´s Address, 2010-06-16Welcome to EBSA - the European BioSafety Association! Dear Colleagues, EBSA is increasingly recognized as a source of knowledge and expertise in the field of biosafety and biosecurity owing to our structure as non-governmental, non-profit and independent organization and to the knowledge and experience of our members. |
|
| As an organization, EBSA continues to grow each year. During the past year we have 28 additional members, increasing our memberships to 374 individual members from 25 European countries and 7 outside Europe and 19 corporate members. Our organization is substantially involved in the development of an implementation document to the existing CEN-Work shop Agreement (CWA) 15973 on Laboratory Biorisk Management. In addition, EBSA leads the efforts to harmonize the postgraduate and continuous education of biosafety professionals in Europe in the CEN Workshop 53. Finishing both documents and start their implementation is the major goal for the next year. EBSA continues to follow the development of the EU CBRN Action Plan and if Member States so allow, EBSA will have observer status in the bio subgroups. On the domestic side, the new website was launched before our conference in Ljubliana to improve communication with members. The initiated consolidation of our organizational structures will be driving our agenda in the next 12 months. Task groups with clear goals, mandates and deliverables will be fully introduced. Also, we will continue to increase our network to countries with low membership rates, where additional efforts are needed to increase awareness of biosafety issues. EBSA has grown significantly in size and reputation since it's foundation in 1996. This is due to the enthusiastic, relentless and foremost voluntary work of an increasing number of EBSA members. Please join me in a warm thank you to former and still active members of the different working groups and to the many EBSA members who did or do participate in external working groups. Their excellent work is the foundation of our reputation. Their foresight and efforts will guide us to continue to work hard for Biosafety and Biosecurity in Europe. As an organization, we depend on the input of each individual member. Therefore, I invite and encourage you to participate in working groups and task forces within EBSA, but also externally. If you have concerns or see a future need EBSA should cover, the council and myself would gladly accept your input. Do not hesitate to reach the council under or myself under EBSA is a live and living organization, constantly on the move. Please let me thank you for participating in shaping the face of EBSA in the future. Sincerely Martin Kuster |
